Job Description

About the Role:
Are you an Orthoptist who is passionate about empowering people with low vision to live independently and confidently? Join VisAbility, part of the EverAbility Group, and use your expertise to change lives across Western Australia.

As an Orthoptist you will provide high‑quality assessment, intervention and support to children and adults with low vision. You’ll work within an experienced multidisciplinary team and contribute to an integrated, best‑practice model of therapy services.

 

About you

  • Conduct detailed visual assessments including visual acuity, refractive error, visual fields, eye movements and ocular health tests.
  • Provide education to clients to help them understand their eye condition.
  • Manage programs for eye movement disorders, prescribing exercises and corrective techniques
  • Support clients to maximise functional vision through prescription of low vision aids and assistive technology.
  • Develop and deliver vision therapy programs and evidence‑based interventions.
  • Provide advice on visual ergonomics, contact lens care, occupational eye safety and other visual health matters.
  • Participate in preventative screening programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in our Client Management System.
  • Mentor students and support the growth of the orthoptic profession.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, families, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date with new low vision aids and evaluate their value and application to clients

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Skills

  • Tertiary qualification in Orthoptics.
  • Current Australian Orthoptic Board Registration.
  • Strong understanding of disability and aged care services, legislation and person‑centred practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to apply innovative approaches to service delivery.
  • Previous experience in disability or health settings (preferred).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with low vision individuals.
  • Knowledge and experience prescribing assistive technology and low vision aids.

  • National Police Clearance
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Australian Orthoptic Board Registration
  • Annual Influenza Vaccination
