Job Description
About the Role:
As a Facility Dog Handler, you’ll work closely with our specially trained Facility Dogs to deliver impactful services to clients. You'll play a crucial role in maintaining the dogs’ welfare, supporting their training, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes for service users.
This is a permanent part-time role (0.2FTE) based in Launceston, Tasmania.
Salary: $66,256.31 pro-rata
Key responsibilities:
Collaborate with Assistance Dog Trainers to ensure effective use of Facility Dogs during sessions
Monitor and prioritise the health and welfare of the dog, ensuring rest, exercise, nutrition, and safety, reporting concerns to the Manager when needed.
Liaise with volunteers around scheduling Facility Dogs for sessions.
Engage respectfully and empathetically with service users, always ensuring informed consent
Maintain accurate records and reports, and ensure compliance with industry standards
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, creating reports when required
Contribute to the strategic direction of EverAbility Group and represent the organisation with professionalism and care, upholding our values in all interactions
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential Skills and Attributes:
Proven experience and/or qualifications in dog handling
Ability to work autonomously and as a team member in the community and other dynamic environments, which require ongoing risk evaluation and assessment.
Passion for improving the lives of vulnerable individuals through human-animal connection
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Initiative and the ability to solve problems in real-time
Excellent organisational and time management abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data systems
Confident public speaker with the ability to engage diverse audiences
Experience in the human services or community sector is desirable
